We can’t blame you if you’ve complained about the extremely hot weather over and over again the past few weeks. The season is just too hot and dry, but don’t let it take a toll on you. Here are a few simple ways you can keep your family feeling calm and cool during the hottest time of year. No AC included!
1. Go for cotton.
Lightweight cotton bed sheets are known to be more breathable. They also provide ventilation and airflow inside a room. Make sure your linens are also light-colored for that extra airy feeling.
2. Place a towel inside the freezer.
Got a face towel? Slightly wet a small towel, put it in a plastic bag or a plastic container, and place it inside the freezer for a few hours. When it gets too hot, get it from the freezer and pat it on your face, neck, and other pulse points like your wrists, ankles, and behind the knees to cool down the body.
3. Set up your mattress on the floor.
Fact: Hot air eventually finds its way up in the air so being close to the ground as much as possible would be a big help. If the bedrooms are on the second floor of the house, set up a mini slumber party with a movie marathon down in the living room. It feels cooler and it would be a fun thing to do for the whole family, too.
4. Unplug.
Did you know that plugged gadgets and electronic devices contribute to the heat at home? So literally take the time to unplug these things to reduce heat and save energy.
5. Wash your feet or take a bath as many as you want!
Cool down by soaking your feet in cold water in a basin for a few minutes. You can even place ice cubes for that extra cooling effect. But if you want to go all out, take a bath as much as you like to feel fresh and comfy all day.
